Downey and Haznevi Launch Saudade Ink

Two veteran film figures have teamed up to launch a new financing outfit built to chase ambitious arthouse cinema across the world.

Ireland-UK producer Mike Downey and Istanbul-based Emir Külal Haznevi have joined forces on Saudade Ink, a boutique film financing company focused on developing, producing and investing in internationally minded auteur projects. Reports indicate the venture has support from a consortium of private individuals in Turkey and the Middle East, giving it a regional funding base with global ambitions.

Saudade Ink enters the market with a narrow mission: back arthouse films that may struggle to find support in a crowded commercial landscape.

The launch also arrives with two early titles attached: Parallel Tales and All Of A Sudden EPs. That signals the company does not plan to linger in a soft-launch phase. Instead, it appears ready to move quickly from branding to active dealmaking, using a boutique model that favors selective bets over volume.

The timing matters. Independent film financing has grown tougher as risk-averse capital chases fewer projects and larger platforms reshape the market. In that climate, a boutique fund with a clearly defined taste profile can carve out space by moving faster and backing films that sit outside mainstream formulas. Saudade Ink seems designed for exactly that gap.
