NASA’s Curiosity rover used its Mast Camera, or Mastcam, to image a rock nicknamed “Atacama” after it became stuck to the drill at the end of the rover’s robotic arm. NASA says the image was captured on May 6, 2026, the mission’s 4,877th Martian day, or sol. The rock had lodged on the drill earlier, on April 25, prompting engineers to spend several days assessing the problem and working through next steps.
